A Celebration of Spanish Music

The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute is proud to partner with Spain’s Teatro Real as a collaborating institution this fall at Carnegie Hall.

The first gala concert of the Royal Theater of Madrid was held in New York at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage on September 15th. Falla, Albeniz and other great Spanish composers played in a unique program of Opera and Zarzuela in the first concert of the Teatro Real Madrid in New York.  This night celebrated Spanish music at Carnegie Hall with the performances of the pianist Javier Perianes, the soprano Sabina Puértolas, and the Royal Theater Orchestra conducted by Juanjo Mena.

The Teatro Real, recognized by the International Opera Awards as best Opera House in the world, also commemorated Madrid and New York City’s 40th Anniversary as sister cities with its first gala in the USA.
