Innovation Project: Grupo Ecological Opts for Lindner Recycling Technology The Brazilian recycling company Grupo Ecological, based in Limeira, to the west of São Paulo, has two plastic recycling lines dedicated to processing challenging post-consumer and post-industrial plastics into high-quality regranulate. Two of Lindner’s Micromat shredders and one Lindner Washtech washing line ensure a consistent throughput and output of high-quality plastic flakes. In a joint project with Unilever, the companies created the first caps made from 100 % recycled post-consumer plastics, helping Unilever reach its 2025 global sustainability objective ahead of schedule. An accolade for Grupo Ecological and for Lindner’s recycling technology.

Brazil's government increased import taxes of 30 polymers and chemicals to 20pc from 12.6pc this week, including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Domestic manufacturers and chemical industries associations welcomed the decision, arguing that the measure will help level the playing field against foreign competitors who benefit from lower production costs. However, critics of the tax hikes say they will increase costs for consumers and manufacturers who rely on imported polymers and chemicals. Packem and Plastic Bank announce a partnership to start the production and sale of Social®️ Plastic in Brazil The initiative benefits members of collection communities, ensuring extra income and benefits for each individual. The plastic will be processed and reintegrated into the production chain as Social®️ Plastic, Plastic Bank's final product. The entire recycling process is tracked and recorded through blockchain, ensuring transparency throughout the chain. With the partnership, the processor buys the PET from the Plastic Bank ecosystem, at registered collection points. The company recycles the plastic and, as a reseller, sells the material to processors and to the market as Social®️ Plastic, for use in new packaging and products. For the material to be validated as Social Plastic, it must be registered by Plastic Bank, with guaranteed traceability of the chain, 100% recyclability and payment of bonuses to all members. Members receive extra remuneration per kilogram of material delivered, increasing their income by up to 40%. With the partnership, members of collection communities in Paraná will have an increase in income. For the company's CFO, Marcos Spitzner Filho, this is another strategic partnership of Packem in its sustainability purposes and commitment to ESG actions: - In terms of governance, this partnership offers the market the traceability of all recycled material, ensuring the effectiveness of the circular economy. In addition, it brings environmental gains, as each unit of recycled PET material reduces the need to use virgin plastic of fossil origin, and social gains, as it will ensure more dignified remuneration for families who live from recycling.
