Keeping you connected: Fast, free Wi-Fi now on most transatlantic routes; coming to regional jets

Delta’s industry-leading Wi-Fi rollout is about to hit another milestone: As of early April, all customers flying across Delta’s transatlantic network to Europe, Israel and West Africa will have access to fast, free Delta Sync Wi-Fi presented by T-Mobile.

It’s a major step toward Delta’s goal of bringing free Wi-Fi to its entire global fleet (after having already completed rollout to the entire domestic mainline fleet) – connectivity at an unprecedented scale, unmatched across the industry. Plus, the journey continues as the Wi-Fi rollout expands to routes serving South America, which Delta expects to complete later this spring.

But even for those not flying overseas, the Wi-Fi rollout is quickly coming closer to home for many customers: this spring, Delta outfitted the first of its fleet of more than 400 regional jets—a CRJ-700—with fast, free Wi-Fi and entered service.

As part of that connectivity upgrade, Delta will equip its entire Boeing 717 fleet with a first-of-its-kind solution that sets a new standard for connectivity in commercial aviation. The solution enables simultaneous dual-network connectivity to deliver the best possible online experience—which means seamless streaming to personal devices and superior performance across Delta’s network.

Stay connected from gate to gate with Delta Sync Wi-Fi. Once boarding doors close, SkyMiles Members can instantly access the internet on one or more of their devices – no need to wait until they reach 10,000 feet. Customers on domestic and exit-U.S. flights can stream the latest from Paramount+ on their devices; access offers from brands they love; find travel inspiration for their journey (as well as real-time updates for their trip); challenge themselves with games and puzzles from New York Times Games; play the retro-style Sky Hopper game for a chance to win a $400 gift card; browse unique gifts and Centennial-branded merch in Delta Sync Wi-Fi's onboard Delta Shop; and so much more. Delta Sync Wi-Fi unlocks a world of connectivity, right at your fingertips.

Delta expects dual-network connectivity retrofits to begin Q4, with the entire 717 fleet expected to be complete by early 2026.

Coming in late 2026, select new delivery A350-1000 and A321neo aircraft will also be outfitted with dual-network connectivity solution, further enhancing our next-generation Delta Sync seatback experience. As announced at CES, the next-gen seatback experience will include intelligent 4K HDR QLED displays, Bluetooth® capabilities, advanced personalization capabilities, and more.

“Thanks to the dedication and expertise of Delta teams, we’re making enormous strides in our efforts to bring fast, free Wi-Fi to every aircraft in our fleet—which in turn will transform our aircraft into personalized platforms where customers can connect and engage in meaningful new ways,” said Ranjan Goswami, S.V.P. – Customer Experience Design. “With the addition of our pioneering dual-network connectivity solution to 717s and forthcoming A350-1000 and A321neo new deliveries, we’re unlocking new possibilities for what it means to stay connected in the air.”

Delta’s new travel experiences: Your questions, answered

Starting today, the way you shop for flights on Delta.com and on the Fly Delta app is changing, with new travel experiences that can be customized to your needs and preferences. Read more about what these new experiences mean for you – so you can be ready when they officially take off this fall.

Starting Oct. 1 (and available for purchase now on Delta.com and the Fly Delta app), Delta will service new travel experiences alongside refreshed products: Basic, Classic and Extra for Delta Main, and Classic and Extra for all products Delta Comfort and above.*

*Basic, Classic and Extra available on flights originating from U.S. and Canada.

Starting May 15, customers shopping and booking tickets for travel on or after Oct. 1 will start to see a new shopping experience when on Delta.com and in the Fly Delta app – one that lets them shop for and select the travel that best suits their needs and preferences.

It’s a new way for customers to shop for travel that fits their needs and preferences – while still enjoying the same value and elevated service they've come to expect with Delta. For more on what these changes might mean for you, read the Q & A below.

Q: Why is Delta announcing these experiences for purchase in May, but not flying them until October?

  • A: This degree of change doesn’t happen overnight and will take time for our operational teams to prepare to ensure they are fully able to deliver on the new experiences. We also want to ensure our customers have ample time before Oct. 1 to learn about the updates we are making and how they can choose to travel in the future.

Q: My trip is in November, but I purchased my ticket in April (i.e., prior to May 15). Will my experience change at all because of this shift?

  • A: If you purchased a “Basic Economy” ticket (now “Delta Main Basic”) or a non-refundable ticket (now “Classic”) for your journey, you should expect no changes to your travel experience.
  • If you purchased a “Refundable” experience for travel on or after Oct. 1 in a market where “Extra” was launched, you will automatically receive the “Extra” experience; there is no action you need to take. Please note that it may take some time for the new experience to be reflected in your My Trips account.

Q: Can I modify my selected experience (Basic, Classic or Extra) or product (Delta Main, Delta Comfort, Delta First, Delta Premium Select or Delta One) post-purchase?

  • A: Experiences are not able to be modified post purchase. However, if you would like a different experience, you are able to cancel your itinerary and book a new one (subject to applicable fees and/or fare differences).
  • You can choose to upgrade your product post purchase, and your experience will remain consistent across your journey. For example, if you are traveling in Delta Main Classic from ATL to LAX roundtrip but choose to upgrade your return flight to Delta First, then you will have a Delta First Classic ticket on your return flight.

Did you know?

The new shopping experience isn’t the only thing that’s changed in the Fly Delta app. The latest 7.0 release includes live activities for real-time flight updates; Global and Regional Upgrade Certificate redemption; and more. Get the most from your summer travel with Fly Delta 7.0.

Q: Will Basic, Classic and Extra experiences be offered on every route Delta flies? What about mixed-metal itineraries (i.e., international routes that include Delta metal for one leg of the journey and a partner airline plane – KLM, Air France, Korean Air, etc. – for another leg)?

  • A: Our rebranded experiences (“Basic” and “Classic”) will exist across the Delta system; however, "Basic” will be subject to availability.
Our new “Extra” experience will be limited to itineraries originating in the U.S. and Canada, as well as select international markets.
  • If “Extra” is not available in a given market, customers will see the legacy “Refundable” product in its place.

Q: How will the Basic, Classic and Extra experiences affect upgrade eligibility for Medallion Members?

  • A: Your Medallion Status and product purchased (i.e., Delta Main, Delta Comfort, Delta First, Delta Premium Select or Delta One) remain the most significant factors when determining your upgrade eligibility.
  • In instances where multiple Medallion Members have equivalent Status (Medallion and Million Miler) and purchased the same product, those who purchased an “Extra” experience will receive priority.
