Updated July 2, 2025

Helicopter Operations at Elk Camp
On Monday, July 7, helicopter operations will take place at Elk Camp in Snowmass as part of construction for the new Elk Camp six-pack chairlift, scheduled to open for the 2025–26 winter season.

For guest and staff safety, all hiking and biking access served by the Elk Camp Chairlift will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This includes a partial closure of the Vista Trail and the upper section of Valhalla. Guests hiking into the helicopter zone will be turned around.

Open Areas:

  • Elk Camp Gondola
  • Lost Forest activities (Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, Challenge Course, Climbing Wall)
  • Elk Camp Restaurant
  • Lower mountain bike trails

The helicopter operation marks a milestone in the ongoing enhancement of on-mountain experiences at Snowmass. We encourage visitors to plan accordingly for this temporary closure and thank them for their understanding.

Snowmass Master Development Plan Update

As outlined in the Snowmass Master Development Plan and advanced ahead of full plan review, Aspen Snowmass will put in a new high-speed quad originating from across the Snowmass Mall and ending at the top of Coney Glade. This lift will replace the existing Coney Glade Chair, and the new quad will be named Coney Express. The lift project has received approvals from the U.S. Forest Service and the Town of Snowmass Village.

Set to be installed in the summer of 2024, the lift will start spinning in 2025 and will replace the existing Coney Glade chair, helping to move skiers and riders out of the base area and alleviating congestion on busy days.
