“Ibi” is the piece that inspired the whole project. It is the first piece I composed back in 2017. I used to call it “All three”, since it uses 3 modes, has 3 chords, has a three-bar melody period and many other coincidences. Also, Ibi is the short three-letter name for Igbim, an Afro-Brazilian conga pattern in 3/4 that ignites TRE compositional process. The song is played by the trio Rodrigo Simoes (guitar), Mark Nelson (drums) and Carl Mayotte (bass) featuring the virtuoso percussionist congolese Elli-Miller Maboungou (yambu).
TRE
Latin guitar, Afro-Brazilian grooves and jazz fusion... The sound of Rodrigo Simoes asserts itself with this new concept album under the sign of 3. From samba to baião via conga, Simoes enjoys making ternary compositions with the styles of Brazilian popular music, which gives new inspired grooves. With his trio and his guests, the musician delivers vibrant and joyful music.
